This portrait was inspired by a very old black & white photographic image. Although not an exact portrait, I have tried to capture the beauty, intelligence and intensity in her stare. I saw in her spiritual strength and an individuality in her hairstyle and beaded jewellery which also reflected her Indigenous culture. I tried very hard to get a truthful rendition of her eyes as they were so arresting, inspiring me in the first instance to paint her. Hope I have brought her to life in an authentic manner.
